Along with musculo-skeletal complaints such as neck pain & back pain,
headaches are surely the most common physical ailment in the country.
Approximately 40 - 50 million Americans suffer from chronic headaches,
not to mention the untold millions who deal with only the occasional headache
which are easily remedied by an aspirin or a good nights sleep.
Headaches are rarely life-threatening; but severe,
recurrent headaches can prompt thoughts of suicide.
Every year, more than 45 million Americans get headaches,
& over 4 billion is spent on analgesics to mask their SYMPTOMS.
Consider the BILLIONS of dollars made from sales of
over-the-counter headache relievers as well as prescription drugs,
or the never ending commercials advertising products
for relief of headaches and you will begin to catch
a glimpse of this staggering problem.
More than 90 percent of headaches are simple TENSION headaches -
which can be a symptom of any number of causes -
from anxiety, stress, physical tension, lack of sleep
and over-consumption of caffeine to food allergies,
eye strain, fever, hypoglycemia, PMS, dehydration,
side effects of prescribed medications, and of course poor posture.
In fact, anything that can imbalance or distort the normal curves
of the spine has the potential to cause head pain.
Either physical, mental or emotional tension can trigger headaches
by causing constriction of the blood vessels in the head.
If you're prone to headaches you may be aware of some
of the triggers that cause them - such as stress,
lack of sleep, hunger, too much mental work, etc.
But have you thought about your posture lately?
Rounded shoulders, a curved upper back, and head pitched
slightly forward can all create muscular tension
that can result in headaches. Experts believe that 75 percent
of all headaches are due to problems in posture and muscular tension -
specifically muscle tension in the back of the neck.
Because these muscles connect to the head,
tension accumulating here can readily be referred to
the temples, forehead and behind the eyes.
The GOOD NEWS is that,
like back and neck problems,
90% of all headaches are also
PREVENTABLE and SELF TREATABLE!
In this program not only will you will learn the most common causes
of headaches, along with the most effective methods for preventing them
so that you can avoid getting them in the first place,
but you will also learn the safest and best methods for
the self treatment of your headaches.
Quite logically, because headaches arise so often from
muscular tension, there is no substitute for a thorough
daily program of stretching &relaxation for their
treatment and prevention, especially ones that stretch
and relax the neck and back. Not only will you be shown
the easiest, quickest and safest methods in accomplishing this,
but you will also be taught many other valuable
techniques to relieve your own head and neck pain.
Such as the proper way to use acupressure points, your breath,
stress management, meditation, 'auto-massage', 'auto-mobilization',
'unwinding', 'scanning', 'tuning in', postural correction
in all activities of daily living, and the art of MINDFULNESS -
which is the real key to the prevention and self treatment of headaches.
